New guy with a question

New guy with a question

2006-02-28 by unusua1suspect

Hi, I just joined the group.

I just ordered my PFP today, it should arrive later this week.

I print on an Epson 2200 and a Fuji Pictrography 3500.

I've had very good luck just sticking with the Epson paper / inks /
profiles. Maybe I'll try out some new papers once I get the hang of
the PFP.

My problem child, and the main reason I bought the PFP, is the
Pictrography. The PG3500 profile I downlaoded from Fuji is pretty
bad. Has anybody tried profiling one on these beasts? Any advice?

Thanks, and looking forward to learning from y'all.

Mike

Yes, the Pictro is enough to drive anyone to custom profiling. You'll find it makes your color images much, much more acceptable. More accurate colors, maybe even more shadow detail. However, all that stuff I've been saying about good black and white prints with color ink on the Epson K3 printers? Don't expect that degree of control and neutrality from a Pictro... far more neutral... neutral enough that you can show them to someone with a straight face... but not neutral enough that you'd be satisfied with them as serious monochrome prints. If you add enough tint to them (heavy sepia, for instance, or Oriental Seagull blue) then you can probably get away with it.
