Re: [disklavier] Asking again...

2014-07-04 by George Frederick Litterst

Good morning, everyone.

Here is my attempt to answer the 3 questions:

(1) I have personally not noticed a difference nor a degradation of sound quality when upgrading from a Mark IIXG to a DKC-850.

(2) This Yamaha webpage will enable you to search for Disklavier dealers by zip code: http://usa.yamaha.com/dealers/

To determine zip codes where you’ll be traveling, you can look them up here: https://tools.usps.com/go/ZipLookupAction_input

Alternatively, you can pick out zip codes off of a map: http://www.unitedstateszipcodes.org

(3) Regarding power, you might want to check out the product brochure on the Yamaha website in the US:

http://download.yamaha.com/api/asset/file/?language=en&site=usa.yamaha.com&asset_id=45694

Under the heading Rated Power Voltage/Frequency it says, "DC12V 3A, 50/60Hz.”

The brochure contains a picture of the back of the unit where you plug the power supply in. The connecting point is a circular with positive polarity in the middle. In the US, the unit comes with an external, brick-style power supply that has the following information printed on it:

Input: 100-240v ~ 50/60Hz 1.2A
Output: 12.0v 3.0A

Although the DKC-850 manual does not talk about the power issue, you may find it handy to look over. A PDF version is available on the Disklavier Education Network website:

http://yamahaden.com/resources-2

I hope that helps.

PianoBench

I´m sort of rephrasing questions from two months ago, just in hope to get new and more information...

I´ve just bought a Disklavier DC3A with the DKC55RCD control unit.

1) I´m thinking of upgrading to the new DKC850 control unit, and have read about new funktions on it. Is there someone on this group who has done this, and can judge the difference in sound quality you get from the sounds when you update?
; Someone answered that the sound quality actually seems inferior with the new unit. This is confusing, how could that be possibly on a unit ten years newer? Can anyone else confirm that?

2) I´m visiting some cities in the US this summer and I´m thinking of buying the new one then.
In Chicago, Minneapolis, San Fransico and Los Angeles, can you people living there recommend a good store? What price would I expect to get?
Did´nt get answers on this one, hope to be more lucky now...

3)
Does the the new DKC850 has it´s power transformation inside or in an outer adapter, which can be changed if used overseas?

Thanks in advance...
