QRS calls their stream "Analog MIDI" as well, sometimes abbreviating it 
"AMI".   A more appropriate term might be "modulated MIDI", because 
these formats generally involve MIDI data bytes modulated into a digital 
stream that can be carried by an audio channel using frequency-shift 
keying or phase-shift keying, similar to how raster data are sent over a 
telephone link via FAX.

"Analog MIDI" is an example of non-technical management coining a 
nonsensical term and then having it stick (e.g. "Wi-Fi").
