unfortunately everyone wants to do something different with MIDI so it is not really possible to have a simple editor without disappointing almost every user. a general purpose sequencer suits the needs of many more people than one that is very limited. if you want to do specific things to files in batches such as modifying the loudness scale, changing pedal timing, moving notes among channels in bulk etc, others and i have a variety of utilities that perform commonly wanted changes without having to open the files in a sequencer. if you tell us specifically what you want to do to the files maybe someone can suggest a solution other than editing the files by hand. my favorite sequencer for general use is an old copy of Cakewalk Home Studio 10. it is not the best sequencer but it is fairly easy to navigate, well documented everywhere because it is so old and it is a lot less confusing than something like the latest Cubase. you should be able to find it on e-bay for almost nothing. it runs on win 8.1 but i have not tested it on windows 10 and probably never will because i will probably never use windows 10.
