Good morning, everyone. In response to Brians' questions about the silent audio system (below): I have a MarkIIXG vintage Disklavier Pro. Its setup is essentially the same as yours, at least as far as the sound generation issues are concerned. With Disklaviers that do not have the silent system, the tone generator is in the control unit. When there is a silent system, the tone generator is located inside the piano and its outputs are available on the little box the sits underneath the bass keys. On my Disklavier, the use of the headphone jack does not affect the output of the speaker system. In my case, I do not have speakers mounted underneath the piano. Instead, the audio output is run through an external amplifier into my speaker system. So, if I want to kill the output of the speakers, I turn off the amplifier to my external sound system OR I reach behind the little audio box underneath the bass keys and pull out the audio cable from AUX Out. I tried both things that you recommended. In fact, the options were set to what you recommended already... However I did try changing them around. I examined all the connections and read through the "silent operation manual" and here are my findings. I do have a Mark IIXG disklavier. The control unit (on the right) is a DKC500R. On the left, of course, is the silent control unit. The speaker is plugged into the "Aux out" of the silent control unit. There isn't really anyplace on teh control unit to plug in the speaker. This quote is from the silent operation manual... "with Disklavier Silent/Pro series, the OUTPUT R,L/MONO connectors have been replaced with AUX OUT,IN connectors on the Silent Control Box" The silent operation manual goes on to explain that you can use the silent system and the speaker to play quietly. The instructions state the headphones should NOT be plugged into the silent control box in order to do this. It never specifically states that by plugging the headphones in the speaker should be shut off, but it certainly seems to be implied. Is anyone aware of someone at Yamaha that I can confirm how this is supposed to operate? Thanks again Carol (and anyone else who replies) Brian >>
