Re: [disklavier] Yamaha DGT7A

Holly,

The reason I recommend a UPS as opposed to surge protection is that a
lightening strike or strong electrical surge may knock out a UPS, but I
have never had even a lightening strike get passed a UPS and damage
equipment that has been plugged into it. The battery in the UPS acts as
a buffer or sponge for even very strong electrical surges. A UPS is
inexpensive compared to a Yamaha digital piano!

A few years ago we had a lightening strike an antennae outside our house
and come into our home's electrical circuits. Everything that we had on
a UPS (all four of our computers, audio, and video equipment) survived
without any damage. All such equipment plugged into surge suppressers
or with no protection, had to be replaced. It was a powerful lesson
that I have not forgotten.
