QRS Pianomation and PianoDisc are the two American companies that compete
with theYamaha Disklavier - sort of! Both of these companies sell a player
system that can be installed after market, and both of them provide analog
midi CDs that would play on your Disklavier. However, neither of these
companies produces a "record" capability that even comes close to the DKV or
have a decent pedal mechanism. The literature on the DCD1 claims that it
will play other manufacturers products.

What are QRS CDs?
Are you sure about whether you can play PianoDisc CDs?

You only need the EMK1 upgrade to use PianoSmart technology with the DCD1.
Otherwise the DCD1 works fine with all PianoSoft Plus Audio CDs. You can
also play QRS CDs and I think the PianoDisc CDs as well. PianoSmart also
requires using both MIDI ports on the DCD1. To use the other external
MIDI
functions you may have to disconnect the MIDI cables from the CD player.
All of the various wiring scenarios are illustrated in the official Yamaha
publications. You can order your free copy of the manual from Yamaha as
it
is not on their website.
