Re: [disklavier] Self-calibration

2004-10-02 by Carol Beigel

There are two modes available on the Disklavier - Test
Mode and Maintenance Mode. All the software needed for
calibrating and testing the unit is included in the
"box" - as opposed to other systems that require a
"test box" that plugs into the unit.

The Maintenance Mode matches the computer to the
condition of the piano. This is especially important
for recording purposes. As the felts settle in the
piano, or seasonal changes affect the wood parts, the
geometry of the piano action can change enough to cause
lost motion or loss of power. The pedals are
calibrated as well as the least amount of energy
required to play the piano softly.

It is possible to press the wrong buttons yourself when
in these modes, and end up doing a global adjustment
you did not want!
