I haven't used this tool, but I suspect you want to reduce the velocities, as this is the individual note loudness. I would expect the volume control to insert controller 7 messages, which I think will have the same effect as adjusting the volume control on the piano control unit (on my MPX1Z Mark II this puts the "soft" pedal down) Give it a try and see what happens I guess!
