Check out veloset, which is part of the DKVUTIL package in the file vault. It will allow you to easily adjust the volume level of your material, and reduce the need for such extreme measures.

Subject: [disklavier] Soft pedal

I have an MX1 Mark IIXG, one year old. Because the volume on all of the
music we have - be it PianoDisks or downloaded - is so loud, we turn it
down to its lowest setting which places the soft pedal in its lowest
position. We play the piano in this mode for 2-3 hours/day continuously
on average. Can this cause any damage to the piano? I would appreciate
some input from all of you knowledgeable folks !
