Hi Jorge,
Thank you for your answer. My DKV is a mark 2, not the XG version.
I did not think of the delay due to the DKV mechanical parts ! I will check the manual, but I do not remember anything about midi thru. However, what would the midi out be for ?
I was thinking of using Cubase because it allows me to direct the different channels to the different midi devices, directly from the pc. Which means channel 1 to the dkv, and the rest to the roland sound module.
Because of this delay, and assuming that the midi out works as a thru, the gnmidi software I have would be sufficient.
Which synths do you have ?

Hi PascalJust be sure to connect the MIDI OUT of the PC, to the MIDI IN of the DKV and then the MIDI OUT of the DKV to the MIDI IN of the first MIDI device involved. This is due a delay (latency) of the DKV mechanical parts.I can't remember the correct setups in the DKV controller to make the MIDI OUT port work like a MIDI THRU port.If you are using the Yamaha serial to host (drivers and cable) then you will have 2 midi out ports in the PC, one for the DKV (and the DKV XG internal module) and one "wired" to the midi out.As far as I know, if you are using a USB to MIDI or any other MIDI connection, you will depend on the MIDI channel assignments of your sequences and the DKV controller setup.About the quality of the sounds it depends on you personal taste an the instrument famlily (strings, brass, etc.)I have a mixer before the amplifier, so depoending on each file arrangement, I listem to one, the other or both Synths. You also can mix audio using the audio IN of the DKV and then audio OUT to the amplifier.Your choice.
2008/2/13, ramseymonoi <ramseymonoi@yahoo.co.uk>:Hi there,
I am moving along in my discovery, and I am thinking of getting the
following setup:
a PC to store midi files and run CUBASE SE, connected to my disklavier
via USB port, and to a Roland JV2080 sound module via another USB port.
The latter will be connected to my pre-amplifier.
I am being told that the sounds coming out of those modules such as the
Roland are very lifelike, and better than what a MK2XG can produce. Is
that true ?
Am I doing the right thing ? Has anyone got a similar setup ?
Looking forward to your thoughts,
Pascal
