Re: [disklavier] Disklavier problem

Hello Everyone,

disconnect
the MIDI-in cable at the DKV, while you are recording to the sequencer, and

only the MIDI-out connection at the DKV. Your sequencer has an option
somewhere
to turn off its loopback. The sequencer's default, when you launch it, is
probably "Loopback On".

I got so tired of that happening, I built a switchbox that the two MIDI cables
pass through so that I can break the data line in either direction. >>

Just to clarify for others what is happening:

A MIDI loop can result when you have set MIDI Out on the Disklavier to
Keyboard Out and have also turned on MIDI Thru in the software running on the
computer. In this situation, when you play on the Disklavier, you send
Note-On messages to the computer, which then echoes those messages back to
the Disklavier. Echoed messages cause the Disklavier to play those same keys
again and send the same messages all over again--etc.

Changing the Disklavier's MIDI Out setting, changing the Disklavier's MIDI
Receive Channel setting (so that it does not match the channel of any
incoming data), and turning off the MIDI Thru feature on the computer all
solve the problem.
