Re: [disklavier] Transformation to "silent system"

2001-04-12 by Thomas N. Wheeler

A number of times on this forum and on DUG I have seen individuals state
that the Giebler software package will allow one to make copies of
Yamaha commercial software disks. I purchased the Giebler program for
the purpose of making backups of the extensive library of Yamaha floppy
disk software that I have purchased. I have found that the Giebler
software will not copy the Yamaha floppies, and in fact this is stated
in the literature that came with the Giebler software. Fortunately,
about the time that I discovered this fact, I also discovered the
dkvutils suite of software which does allow copying of Yamaha commercial
software. In fact, the dkvutils software is the single most useful
software package for disklavier owners that I can think of and I cannot
imagine doing without it.

I wish to be clear that I do not copy Yamaha or any other commercial
software for any reason other than having a personal backup which I
occasionally use to reduce the overall volume using the Veloset utility
that is part of the dkvutils package. I strongly oppose the
distribution of copies of commercial software because it reduces or
eliminates the possibility of this library of commercial software (which
I prize highly) from growing. I am simply trying to save someone else
the expense of purchasing the Giebler software only to find out as I did
that it will not copy Yamaha commercial software.

If anyone has been successful in getting the Giebler software suite to
copy Yamaha commercial disks, I would appreciate your letting me and
others know that I am in error.

Tom
