Transformation to "silent system"

2001-04-06 by emmanuel.hermand@freesbee.fr

I own a MX1 Disklavier (European name for non-silent model this is
the latest version without CD). My neightbours start
complaining...does someone know if it is possible to
transform my piano into a silent one ? No risk to damage it ?

Thanks a lot !
Emmanuel

I have an MX 1 and I use the soft petal. If you look inside you'll see that
it drops a sheet of fabric in front of the hammers to reduce the volume.....

Thanks Michael, but unfortunately, this is not enough...what's more, it is
not pleasant to play with the Softpedal on all the time (it is even
terrible).

Re: [disklavier] Transformation to "silent system"

2001-04-11 by Carol Beigel

There are 2 ways I have found to effectively quiet a Disklavier. The first
is to cut pieces of sound-insulating foam to fit between the back posts
against the soundboard (back of the piano), or cut pieces of styrofoam and
cardboard egg crates to fit.

The second way is to buy the Giebler Yamaha DOM package utility software
from www.giebler.com and copy the songs on your Yamaha diskettes to your
hard drive, then modify the velocity (volume) as a percentage (I use 50%),
then copy the modified songs back onto a diskette.

The freeware dkvutils suite in our file vault contains veloset, which will also allow you to quickly and easily adjust key velocities. Be sure to work only on a copy, so as to not lose the original settings.

Re: [disklavier] Transformation to "silent system"

2001-04-12 by Thomas N. Wheeler

A number of times on this forum and on DUG I have seen individuals state
that the Giebler software package will allow one to make copies of
Yamaha commercial software disks. I purchased the Giebler program for
the purpose of making backups of the extensive library of Yamaha floppy
disk software that I have purchased. I have found that the Giebler
software will not copy the Yamaha floppies, and in fact this is stated
in the literature that came with the Giebler software. Fortunately,
about the time that I discovered this fact, I also discovered the
dkvutils suite of software which does allow copying of Yamaha commercial
software. In fact, the dkvutils software is the single most useful
software package for disklavier owners that I can think of and I cannot
imagine doing without it.

I wish to be clear that I do not copy Yamaha or any other commercial
software for any reason other than having a personal backup which I
occasionally use to reduce the overall volume using the Veloset utility
that is part of the dkvutils package. I strongly oppose the
distribution of copies of commercial software because it reduces or
eliminates the possibility of this library of commercial software (which
I prize highly) from growing. I am simply trying to save someone else
the expense of purchasing the Giebler software only to find out as I did
that it will not copy Yamaha commercial software.

If anyone has been successful in getting the Giebler software suite to
copy Yamaha commercial disks, I would appreciate your letting me and
others know that I am in error.

Tom

With the Giebler utility, the trick is to copy each song individually.

Robert,

Thanks. After finding out that the Giebler software would not copy an
entire disk I went on to seek other solutions. I appreciate your
pointing out to me that individual songs can be copied using the Giebler
software. Using the DOS-based dkvutils suite, entire disks can be
copied at once -- a considerable time saving when copying multiple disks.

dkvutils

I tried to use dkvcopy utility and immediately after it started to
read the Yamaha disk I got an error that read "bad sector flag". This
happens on all Yamaha disks. Any ideas on what's the problem?? Can
this be run in a dos window? Thanks.

Maybe this is a kind of copy protection by Yamaha. Can you copy the files to nother disk or
the harddisc and do the convert them there?

You should ask for the Yamaha DOM package.
