Disklavier

There's more than one USB port on the Mark IV.  The main unit, under the piano, has a USB port that works perfectly with a simple USB cable to send/receive MIDI.  You'll need to download the drivers from Yamaha for your computer (there is a link in the manual, and it's been posted here before as well.)  I don't recall if you have to set something up via the PRC to tell it to use that port for MIDI or not.  Anyway, like I said earlier...I have a computer permanently attached to my MarkIV this way, and it happily sends and receives MIDI, so I know that it works. :-)

The usb interface on the front component (I can never get the names straight...the I/O controller?) can only be used for storage and backup as athomik says.

The USB interface can only be used for storage devices (at the moment, at least). To control the keys, you have to use MIDI. For computers without MIDI, you can use a USB-MIDI interface, such as the Yamaha UX-16.
