Good morning, everyone. Kevin is correct: You can use a simple USB device cable to connect a Mark IV to your computer for 2-way MIDI communications. The USB MIDI port is located on the I/O underneath the instrument; it is right next to the MIDI ports. You can also connect an E3 piano in this way as well as any Disklavier with the new DKC-850 control unit. A USB device cable looks like this: http://www.coolgear.com/images/UBAMBM-2M1.jpg The Yamaha USB MIDI driver is available here: http://www.global.yamaha.com/download/usb_midi/ Regards, PianoBench On Mar 19, 2010, at 7:14 AM, Kevin Goroway wrote: > > There's more than one USB port on the Mark IV. The main unit, under the piano, has a USB port that works perfectly with a simple USB cable to send/receive MIDI. You'll need to download the drivers from Yamaha for your computer (there is a link in the manual, and it's been posted here before as well.) I don't recall if you have to set something up via the PRC to tell it to use that port for MIDI or not. Anyway, like I said earlier...I have a computer permanently attached to my MarkIV this way, and it happily sends and receives MIDI, so I know that it works. :-) > > The usb interface on the front component (I can never get the names straight...the I/O controller?) can only be used for storage and backup as athomik says. > > -Kevin > > From: athomik <mangez@...> > To: disklavier@yahoogroups.com > Sent: Fri, March 19, 2010 6:52:37 AM > Subject: Re: [disklavier] Disklavier mark 4 USB interface > > > > The USB interface can only be used for storage devices (at the moment, at least). To control the keys, you have to use MIDI. For computers without MIDI, you can use a USB-MIDI interface, such as the Yamaha UX-16. > athomik > > On Mar 18 2010, flowline wrote: > > >Can the Disklavier mk4 be controlled note by note with just the usb > >interface to a computer and not the MIDI or both maybe? > >
