It sounds like you might have some stray patch (instrument definitions) 
somewhere in the files? Once sent to the piano, these will stay active 
until another patch is sent for the same channel. On the following page, 
you can find a program called "listmidievents to log" or something like 
that. You can look at all the events in the file and see if there are 
patches. Best to run the program without displaying note or pedal data 
to make it easier to see things like patches etc.
