Ray,

I don't know if this works in Win 7, but I was able to use the formula below to get disks to format as 720 at least up until XP in this way:

from a command prompt, type

format a: /T:80 /N:9

and let it rip

I was able to use these in my original Disklavier controller before I upgraded to the DKC-850. I have attached a cheapie floppy drive to the 850 but I have not used to see if I could write to it; I can read floppies from it (and these would be the 720s).

Windows 95(old) WILL format either 720 or 1.44. I am not sure about Windows 98.   Unfortunately Microsoft figures no one has a need for 720 anymore.  I have found that there is several devices that use the 720s.

Seems to me that your issue is that XP does not format 2DD 720kb disks. (I don't know about Win7.) I had the same issue, but was able to find a program that allows XP to format the disks. Let me know if you're still having problems, and if so I'll try to figure out how to upload the program to this group.
