Piano Not Working

2014-01-13 by <arthurbergman75@...>

Does anyone know why I am getting the following Message, “KD/PD Connection Erro (Press STOP Key)”?
This is a brand new E3 piano delivered last Wednesday. Worked great until Saturday morning and then stopped playing in the middle of a track (song). Have already checked all the connections (I think), turned off power, reset to “factory settings”, etc. But message keeps appearing and neither the keys/pedals or the speakers work when a track is selected and the Play button pressed. Does not matter if the track is selected from memory, cd, USB, etc.
Realize the piano is under warranty and my dealer/Yamaha will get it fixed. But would like to know if it is something I can fix myself with a simple reset procedure or making sure a particular cable is connected properly.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Chances are that you have a problem on one of the key drive circuit boards. You will need a Disklavier technician to loo at it.

Believe you are right. Tech guy was here today and between him and Yamaha support it was determined that one of those boards is not working properly, but they are not sure which one. So both boards have been ordered and, hopefully, that will solve the problem.
Will let you know when it gets fixed, presuming the board/s replacement gets my piano working again. I unfortunately will be out of the country until the 25th, so will not know anything further until the week of January 27th.

Yamaha sent and had the technician replace 2 boards in that key drive box but that did not resolve the problem. All the cables, connection pins, etc. were also checked, actually several times. Yamaha is sending 3 more boards for replacement. I was told by my dealer, and essentially confirmed by Martin at Yamaha, that if that does not fix the problem, the piano will be replaced. Considering that it is a brand new piano and I only had it 3 days before it stopped working, this seems like the reasonable thing to do, as the technician cannot bench test all the boards and wiring on his back under the piano. If replacing boards does not fix the problem, it needs to go back to Yamaha.

We will see what happens in the next few days as the new boards were overnighted to the technician.

Update.

3 more boards were replaced but that still did not resolve the problem. So Yamaha is sending another (new) piano to replace it. And I did not even have to press them to do this. Could not ask for better customer service or warranty. Kudos to Yamaha for really standing behind their product and making sure I got what I paid for.
