Disklavier GA-1 Mark III Owner's Manual

Disklavier GA-1 Mark III Owner's Manual

2014-07-08 by jimbo6710@...

Good Evening,

I have a 2003 Yamaha GA-1 Disklavier Grand Piano Mark III with a Play Back Only DKC-55 Controller plus an added DCD1 CD player. I purchased the piano used in excellent condition. However, I did not receive an Owner's Manual or Service Manual. So, I have been learning through trial and error. I checked the Yamaha site, but did not find a download for the manuals. Does anyone know where to get them ?

Also, I would like to play files from my laptop as discussed in some of the posts. How would I hook it up and play midi files downloaded from the internet. There are a lot of Piano Roll scans available and I have downloaded some and made a floppy and it works great. I would like to play them right from the laptop.

I would like to add music to the memory files, but I haven't figured that out yet.

I really love the piano and would like to take advantage of more of its capabilities.

Thank-You for your help, Jim

Thank-You so much for the link. I downloaded the 2 MarkIII Manuals. They are for the full function model but I think I can just ignore the record and Cd functions and I should be able to learn from there. I still do have a question about playing from my laptop. The manual shows to use a cable that has a serial plug for the computer. My lap top only has USB ports. What type of cable do I need and how would I hook it up ?

You need a USB to midi cable interface.

You need to setup the DKV to accept from messages from MIDI and not from"to host"

I an not familiar with your piano model but this should be it.

You will also need some software to send the MIDI messages in Standard MIDI Files (SMF normally *.MID) to the piano

There are lots of packages of this kind many are very good free.

If you PC is MS Windows based try this one.

You SHOULD take a look to this page.

Here you can also find links to tools to convert diskettes to your PC (assuming your PG has a Floppy drive)
Regards..

I would like to thank everyone for getting me hooked up. I downloaded VanBasco, and hooked up the midi cable and I am now enjoying music from my laptop. I also downloaded the owner's manuals and am learning a lot more about my Disklavier. Jim

Great!

Just a little tip about VanBasco's and DKVs

Besides been a MIDI file player VanBascos's is mainly a KARAOKE file player (a special form of midi files with KAR instead of MID a the file name.

But, DKV have a natural 500 ms delay after the MIDI out message is sent and the actual sound is produced by the piano. so is not in sync with the PC in some special cases.

This makes karaoke lyrics, in the screen, not to be synced with the piano.

Just click in the upper left corner, where a little musical note is in a button, look for configuration click, click the "Misc" TAB, look for delay on lyrics, put a value between (-400, -200) it is try an error depends on your PC hardware.

Voila, the lyrics are now in sync.

By the way, I have some true Piano Roll with lyrics (KAR files) I cant remember who made them, buy they were in the internet I just downloaded them, great job. (maybe you can find the link searching the group message archive)

I also made some Latin music piano only, KAR files, based on very nice MID files I got in the net. They are great for singing, if you like to do it.

Best regards to all.

Hi all.

If you are like me, a Piano Roll lover and have an archive of scanned to MIDI Piano rolls...

Then try this piece of software it's free (for play only).

The issue of the 500 ms seconds delay is not solved yet, but anyway, the files look and sound great when played with a DKV.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
