MX100 stopped playing?

MX100 stopped playing?

2015-01-19 by Jeff Joseph

Hi,

My MX100 has been cheerfully playing away from its floppy discs and midi connection until the other day. It not will not play from either source. (I thought it was a MIDI issue until I popped in a floppy)

Any thing to troubleshoot?

IS there a silent mode switch?

Jeff

I looked at the power supply and found the 7A fuse is blown, with foil on the glass. Perhaps a capacitor failure ?

Jeff,

Possibly just a blown fuse. In the older Disklavier pianos, if they were pushed really hard (lots of keys at once with high velocities) it was fairly common for the 7 amp fuse to blow.

Thanks Bill,

I would guess the pedal solenoids draw a fair amount of current?

Jeff

Easy enough to replace.

Speaking of pedals, mine tend to be noisy when DKV is self-playing, but not when I play the piano. What adjustment might remedy this? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: [disklavier] MX100 stopped playing?

I”m happy to report the piano is playing happily again with the simple replacement of a fuse in the power supply.

I’m guessing there was an excess of pedaling in one of the midi files I was playing back.

Thanks Bill!

Jeff, Can you please let me know the location of this 7amp fuse for future reference? Rick ... From: Jeff Joseph josephaud@aol.com [disklavier]

Re: [disklavier] MX100 stopped playing?

Between the pedals and the key bed there’s a panel with a knob. You just tug it to tilt it out and slide it to one side.
Once inside you can see the power supply board on the bottom right of the piano. You can identify it it by the large power transformer on the right, and a large black capacitor on the left.
There are two cylindrical glass fuses side by side in clips on top of the board.
With the piano unplugged from the wall, you can pop out the fuse from its clip and replace.

Thanks! This is perfect timing as just this evening my MX100B blew the same fuse and I came here to try and determine what the problem might be. Swapped it out and good to go.

That fuse must have a very specific life expectancy which ends today!

Re: MX100 stopped playing?

2015-01-20 by vinnie@...

Hi Jeff:

I have an MX100 which Yamaha diagnosed as having a bad floppy drive and bad LCD screen. When I was on the phone with Martin at Yamaha, he had me press a series of buttons and the MX100 played through all of the notes.

The parts came in, we installed them, and while we can hear a relay activate somewhere near the power supply, there are not lights on the piano, and of course it doesn't play.

I don't recall if the LEDs lit up during the test or not, but I'm wondering if this fuse could be my problem. Did you notice a clicking sound during power-up in the piano?

Vince

Re: MX100 stopped playing?

2015-01-27 by vinnie@...

I replaced the power supply - Dave Durbin at Yamaha said they fail so often he knows the P/N from memory - and everything is great, except it won't play. So I added:

New LCD
New Floppy
New Power Supply

Message says on Start Up "Insert Floppy" but there IS a floppy disc in there. Sort of a bummer...

Any thoughts?

Vince
