Enspire App alternatives

2019-05-28 by kassey22000@...

Hello, I'm doing my due diligence toward upgrading to an Enspire piano. I wasn't really impressed by the limitations of the current app (which has only been upgraded a couple of times since the intro of the piano over 3 years ago. The Enspire Pro pianos have so many playing, recording, and advanced features that just aren't in the current iOS app. Has anyone tried using a PC browser to access any advanced functions/features?

Also, anyone have access to the tech/maintenance manuals?

Enjoy the music!

Kassey,

I've had the Enspire for 2 years. I use Mac with basic Apps which permit editing of MIDI. The essential functions, of course, are correcting wrong notes, taming too-vigorous playing or lifting notes too soft to play properly and altering or adding pedal. These are easily done.

Anyone upgrading from a Disklavier with the DKV-850 will be disappointed at being unable to use existing Yamaha CDs or floppies, but pure midi is of more interest to me and I drive my Enspire only from my computer or from the iPad supplied.

What other functions have you in mind to use with the Enspire?
I may have some answers.

Ian Williamson

I was surprised to find out accidentally that you can use a browser to access the Enspire directly if you know the ip address. The features are the same but you can use any computer with a browser to access.

I use:
http://192.168.1.103 for example on my network. Knowing this you might be able to write programs to add features.

Hello Ian,

This development could be promising, yet I don't have the HTML advanced programming skills to get at a lot of the features/functions left off the Enspire App (compared to what we can do with the MarkII-E3 pianos). For example there are only a handful of voices/instruments that can be selected from the App, yet the Enspire owners manual lists over 500. I've tried working with the Enspire App at my favorite local Yamaha dealer and besides crashing too often to be useful, many features/functions were hidden or difficult to find (non-intuitive). The Pro XG with 850 (I'm seriously considering trading up) has 6 amazingly detailed, quality manuals with clear instructions on how to record/sync/mix/time self-recorded as well as music shipped with the piano. The accompanying voices are extensive and can be played along with the acoustic piano in layers for orchestration. The Enspire comes with 2 fairly brief PDF manuals.

Fortunately, Yamaha always does an outstanding job of documenting these amazing instruments and after a little searching I was able to find some more in depth guidance on how to use the controller app. It'll take some time to pour over this, then go to the dealer to try it out there, yet the iOS app gets terrible reviews on the app store and very few updates from Yam. Last update for the E3 was years ago, so that concerns me as well.

Still the CX series and some important improvements with the electronic/mechanics in the new Disklaviers is very attractive as I use my piano many hours a week and would like to upgrade.

Great as always to hear from you on this forum!
KC
