Dear group members, Hi!! I am trying to use Finale on my PowerPC 8500 to play songs on my MarkII XG disklavier. I am connecting through modem port to "To Host" with 8 pin printer cable. I am really lost. Can anyone give me any hint and suggestions? Thank you. Ting

Ting, To use the To Host port for playing midi material from your computer on your disklavier, you will need to download and install the appropriate Yamaha CBX driver on your computer. The link for obtaining the Yamaha driver is http://www.yamaha.com/ycaservice/group005/fgrop005.htm . You will need to input the model number of your disklavier control unit (found on the front of the control unit itself) and then select the correct CBX driver for your computer's operating system. Then follow the directions for installing the driver on your computer. Once the driver is installed, go into Finale and select Midi Setup. Within Midi Setup select the Yamaha CBX driver that you just installed. You should then be able to use Finale to play back either midi files or Finale .mus files direclty on your disklavier. Good afternoon, everyone. In a message dated 6/9/02 2:49:54 PM, Ting writes: << I am trying to use Finale on my PowerPC 8500 to play songs on my MarkII XG disklavier. Since you have a Macintosh, you do not need the Yamaha driver (and could not install it if you tried). Also, since you have an older Mac with serial ports and a program that has its own, built-in serial port MIDI driver, you do not need to install any other Macintosh MIDI driver software. Simply attach your serial cable to both your Mac's modem port and to your Disklavier's To Host port. Make sure that the Disklaveir's To Host switch near the serial port is set to "Mac." In the Finale MIDI Setup dialog box, choose the Modem port for MIDI output (and input if you wish to enter notes from your Diskklavier keyboard). At this point, everything should work just fine IF: (1) Your Macintosh modem port is not tied up by some other program. For example, AppleTalk can be set to use the modem port. If so, this will prevent the port from being used by Finale for MIDI. Also, the HotSync software that comes with either the Palm Desktop or the Claris Organizer program can monopolize that port unless you turn off the HotSync feature. (2) Each staff in Finale is assigned to the appropriate MIDI channel. Check the MIDI Receive channel on you Disklavier. That setting determines which channel data is played by the Disklavier. All other channels are played by the tone generator (which means that you must have speakers attached to the Disklavier and turned on in order to hear those other tracks). Regards, PianoBench

George, Thanks for correcting the fact that I had not noticed that Ting was using a Mac. My apologies to Ting for misleading him with the driver information which is, indeed intended only for Windows machines. Tom PianoBench@... wrote:
