Are you talking about a Yamaha PianoSoft diskette? or a floppy you made
yourself? If a PianoSoft disk cannot be seen by the DKV, you probably need
a new floppy drive. The local dealer probably knows a technician who can
fix this.

It's a shame, but the dkvcopy program only works in real DOS, not the
virtual DOS in XP. If you have an older computer that runs DOS (Win98n and
lower) the dkvcopy will work, the XP should be able to read the file once
you have run the ESEQ to MIDI conversion program.

No. You can only put music into the internal memory via floppy drive, but
yours is probably broken. However, you can use your PC to play MIDI files
directly to your Disklavier. First, convert any Yamaha ESEQ files to MIDI
files, or find another source of MIDI files (also known as Import files in
Yamaha lingo). Then download a free Jukebox program, or use the van Basco's
karaoke program (dkutils) and put the MIDI files in a playlist. Many of us
on this list would love to see a jukebox program play ESEQ files, but so far
that has not happened.

You can connect the computer to the Disklaver in either of 2 ways. You can
use the To Host port on the back of the control box, OR use a MIDI interface
(USB, serial or parallel) between your computer and at least one MIDI cable.

Good evening, everyone.

To amplify on what Carol said:

You can play any MIDI file from your computer to your Disklavier and capture
the MIDI file on your Disklavier using MDR record mode. When you do this, you
will have a new MIDI file sitting in your computer' internal memory.

That sounds fascinating! Where do you find the MDR Record mode?

Good evening, everyone.

I am on a trip at the moment and away from a Disklavier, but I'll give it a
try from memory.

--press Record
--press the right arrow button to get to the next screen. I think that the
cursor will be in front of track 1.
--push the + button repeatedly to increase the track number up to 16. Then,
go one increment further and you will see MDR.
--lastly, push Play then start MIDI playback from your external sequencer.
--press Stop when you are done.

MDR stands for MIDI Data Record. When you are in this mode, the Disklavier
records all incoming MIDI data on all 16 MIDI channels.

If you turn on the Remote In feature on the Disklavier, you will not have to
press the Play button on your Disklavier. Assuming that your sequencer is set
up to send remote commands, pressing Play on your sequencer will
simultaneously engage Play on the Disklavier. Be sure that your sequence has a setup
measure with no notes at the beginning if you use the Remote feature.
