[disklavier] converting files

2000-03-03 by John Leslie

Thanks for all of the offers to help in converting some *.fil files to *.mid files. Todd sent me a utility that does the conversion and it worked wonderfully. I am one of the "dreaded" PianoDisc users and needed these files to be in midi format to play them.

Thanks!

Tried it and it woeked like a charm except it set the speed at 29 BPM.
Fixed that using cakewalk and the midi files played as well as the original
Disklavier file. Thanks again.

[disklavier] Some thoughts. . .

2000-03-08 by Diane Rebbec

I've been lurking in the shadows after my disastrous beginning with
DUG. I now realize that this DUG site is waaaaaaaaay over my head; I
understand little about what you're talking. I'd hoped that we
beginners could glean useful information and tips, and LEARN the
Disklavier. Instead, it's far too technical for novices. You've moved
on to the finer points, while we're still trying to master elementary
features. (For instance, I STILL can't get the piano volume down to a
pleasant level, and figuring out how to adapt MIDI's is nearly
impossible--even after using a special program, my Disklavier does what
it wants.)

No, this site isn't for newcomers, who know nothing about the
Disklavier. Matter of fact, after monitoring the chat since January,
I'm even more confused. I mean, I don't even KNOW what a Pianodisc is,
let alone whether or not its inclusion in the discussion goes against
the rules set forth by DUG. (I say, is there a beginner's DUG?)

And, alas, I must reiterate (even if it's blashphemous) that so far, my
new Yamaha Mark II XG is NOT worth its price. It's disappointing, and
I'm so envious of you who have "figured it out".

Diane Rebbec
(dinycat)
Illinois

PS. In reference to my having a glass of wine before dinner--it
doesn't preclude my being able to function, and it certainly isn't
what's causing my difficulties with the Disklavier. Unless, of course,
one isn't nearly enough. Ha.

[disklavier] Re: Some thoughts. . .

2000-03-08 by Todd Muncy

Diane,
Let me clear up one point you may be confused about. This group
(disklavier@egroups.com) is not DUG! It is a private group that I set up
last November. Virtually all of our members are or were members of DUG as
well. The "official" Yamaha sponsored DUG group has the email address
dug@... . When you see [disklavier] in the subject line, it
came from this group. You can also look at the "to" field of your e-mail to
see where it came from.

Generally people on both groups are very generous in helping beginners when
asked. Just ignore the high-tech messages by deleting them. Good luck.
