Disklavier and Home Studio

2003-12-02 by yvesoler

My husband has a Yamaha Disklavier. Before he got the Disklavier, he
used to compose music all the time using Cakewalk and some other gear.
A few years ago, he got a Tascam US-428 Midi board.

For Christmas this year, I'd like to get him a new computer and
something else to encourage him to start composing again. I know he
wants to hook the Disklavier to a computer. I already bought Finale,
but what else should I get? He has an old sound module and the
Disklavier has one built in. The Tascam comes with Cubasis VST audio
recording/MIDI sequencing software, so I don't think he needs Cakewalk
again. Recommendations on what else to get?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

An apple mac Powerbook would do th job very nicely, far more stable for
music applications, most of the studios use apple gear

Gary:
At first I was unable to get the Mannheim Christmas Disk to work, then I used Cakewalk and changed the Channel form 1 to 2 and added volume and velocity both of which were zero. Have you tried the disk you have and does it work in the configuration you sent it? Just trying to understand why this one disk was different.
Also, do you wish me to continue to send you midi's?
Cheers
Dan

Re: Disklavier and Home Studio

Unfortunately, that won't work in our house. We are a Windows home.
My husband is a general manager of a software company and I also work
at a different software company. Needless to say, there will be no
Macs in this home, even though I agree that for music they are
probably better.

Any Windows based ideas?
