Regarding the MX-1 upright, we have a DKC 500R XG Mark II and it is
wonderful all around. The sound is beautiful and we've had nothing but
great results playing the floppy disks and recording on them. We've been
nothing short of ecstatic with this beautiful instrument.

No regrets for me. I have an MX-88 and find I don't record very much, but it is a nice feature to have. May I recommend you consider the MX-1 upright? It is a beautiful model, based on the U-1 non-disklavier. Its sound is absolutely gorgeous ("like a grand"), it takes up very
little space, and it offers all of the state-of-the-art recording AND play features of the disklavier. Unfortunately, I cannot say whether it has a Mark II or Mark II format, but I'm sure many who normally read these messages can. Maybe one will respond. I'm just vouching for
the sound and looks. Best of all, it can be bought for somewhere just North of $10K.

PS - The MX-1 is included as one of the "Pianos Today" portion of the Pianos-300 exhibit at the Smithsonian going on 3/2000 - 3/2001. Awesome exhibit, I highly recommend it.

We have one MX-1 upright and it is one of the best purchases we have made in
recent years. i used the record and playback functions to help my six year
old to improve her hearing and playing. My three year old will often request
"i want to hear the piano play". Over weekends we will enjoy the beautiful
piano music played from disks, and we haven't even hooked up any speakers to
play the other voices yet. My only complaint is the volume control, the
lowest volume is still quite loud.

Re: [disklavier] question

I bought an MX-85 (first generation) disklavier in 1991. Nearly a decade
later I use it nearly everyday. Although technically limited by today's
Disklavier standards I don't feel it is an "8-track". It still does
everything that it was advertised to do when it was made and by interfacing
it with other devices such as computers and tone generators I can make it do
virtually everything the newer ones do. I highly recommend you get one that
records, even if it is an upright. You never know when a talented pianist
might stop by to visit. I still listen to pianists I knew years ago, at
least one of which is no longer living. The commercial disks are great, gut
the personal touch of a friend playing your piano years after they have
moved on is priceless.

Buy it, use it, you'll never regret it!

The MX1 can be adjusted to play almost whisper-quiet. Have your Disklavier Tech call me for directions at 800 854 1569, press 2 at each menu choice and ask for me.
Grands can't be adjusted to the same low level that upright Disklaviers can, unfortunately.

Re: [disklavier] question

It involves adjusting the pedal solenoid and the hammer blow distance. A tech is really my first choice. It would be too difficult to walk someone who has no knowledge of the systems through the adjustments.

Thanks for offering to help. Before i call my technician, may i know whether
the adjustment will affect only the disklavier play volume, or will it also
affect normal human play volume? Thanks.
