Hello all, The first pianos with Smartkey capability were the DGT2IIXG and DGT7. There was a control unit hardware change that took place with these pianos a couple of years after they began production. If the model of the control unit on these pianos is a DKC500RW, it has Smartkey. (For DGT2IIXG and DGT7 pianos with a DKC500R control unit, a Smartkey upgrade is available from Yamaha.) The next pianos that had Smartkey were all Mark III full-function pianos. This includes the DGT2A, DGT7A, standard Mark III grands, Mark III PRO models, and the DU1A. Playback-Only Mark III pianos do not have Smartkey because they have no sensing system for the hammers and keys. Our new Mark IV series pianos, including the Mark IV PRO, have Smartkey. Hmm, thanks for the confirmation. Odd that the database seems to have it written the other way. Anyway. This confirms that I *have* found the database on the E3/DKC-850, and, furthermore, it tells me a whole lot about what DKVBrowser needs to do (try to do...). They are using a different database technology (a much simpler one), and it looks like there's *very* little that the user can do? I don't see any information like a "comments" field, or the number of times each song has been played, etc. ? I'm not familiar enough with the E3/DKC-850 so I'm going to have a lot of questions (maybe I should find the owners manual online and read through it). My next step involves a bit more research, and then I may need someone to do some packet sniffing. But soon after that I'm going to build a test version of DKVBrowser that will attempt a bunch of different things to see if I can proceed. I don't want to get anyone's hopes up too high. From what I see now, there is one major/obvious thing that they could be doing that would make my next step VERY difficult...but they also neglected to do some pretty trivial things that would let me get this far, so my fingers are crossed that they also missed the next obvious one. -Kevin ________________________________

Hi Kevin, I'd be happy to beta-test for you as I have a DKC-850 hooked up to a DC5-Pro. The wireless system works great and I can get your current build to get to the controller, but no further. One rep at Yamaha's support team in LA told me that they expect to have a firmware update ready to release for the 850 this Spring/Summer so maybe they'll free up some information or make some changes that will allow better access?? Thanks for keeping going on this!! --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, Kevin Goroway <kgoroway@...> wrote:

Peter, Great tip. I just ordered their free sampler CD. Ed Vodicka reponded immediately to my email. I can't wait to try it out on our piano when it arrives. Thanks, Chuck --- In disklavier@yahoogroups.com, Peter Giles <pgiles@...> wrote:
