Space for Files

Space for Files

2006-01-21 by Walter Tenten

Hallo Group and Moderator,

space for files appears to be a permanent problem!
There are 30 (thirty) MB reserved for "Photos".
        Why not abuse this space???
My first candidate would be the 2004 e-competition files,
followed by those of this year to come.

Regards

Walter Tenten

If there is a problem with space I am quite happy to store things on
disklavier.org - the wiki supports uploading of media files and they are
easy to link. It would probably be a great way of archiving all this
stuff!

For example, on my user page I have an mp3 I uploaded of "My Romance".
MIDI files can be handled in the same way. Pages can be built up for each
category of the competition if wanted.

I have all the 2004 e-comp files and could try the upload to
somewhere. However, there may be a problem. Each
contestant's files are enclosed within a zip file.
Performances within are simply numbered. Each zip file also
contains a pair of content files in .MNG format. So far, I
have not been able to find an MNG viewer. Any ideas? I
wonder why this obscure format was used to identify tune titles?
Why not a simple text file?

Terry

.MNG is a newer file extension (circa 2001) see
http://www.libpng.org/pub/mng/#history if you want the entire history..

http://www.irfanview.com/ is a freeware Windows graphic viewer that will
read .mng files. You will need to download the main program and the plug-in
pack for .mng support. I've used this program for several years now and it
can handle most any format. Very simple and easy to use.

There are a few viewers for Macs - see
http://www.libpng.org/pub/mng/mngapvw.html and scroll down for a list of
.mng viewing software. I don't have a Mac, so I can't vouch for any of
them.

Hope this helps!

Good evening, everyone.

Terry, the .MNG files are text files. You can open them on a Windows
computer in NotePad and on the Macintosh in TextEdit (or in similar
text- or word-processors). When they are copied to a floppy disk
along with the MIDI files, they enable the Disklavier to show a
custom disk title as well as custom song titles.

The "PDISK.MNG" file contains information about the version of the
Disklavier that made the recording (I think) as well as the disk
title. The "PSONG.MNG" file contains information about each file on
the disk, including the song titles.

Has anyone explored the program "SmartMusic" - an accompaniment software? And whether this can be adapted to output through the disklavier? if it could, it would certainly bring in a whole new large population using this piano.

Hi

The .mng file you talk about is Yamaha's manager file for storing
the names of the tracks on a midi file disk and has nothing to do
with Windows Graphics.

You can open these files with Notepad or a Hex program.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
