Re: Extension cable for the control unit: I was also tired of hitting my
knee on the unit and bending over to read the display. I relocated the
control unit on my Mark III to a small stand that sits on the left side of
the piano. It is at the right height, and no extension was needed to the
cable as it was easy to re-route it under the piano without disconnecting
it. I don't know if the cable is the same length on your piano.

Subject: Extension cable for DKC500RW

Hi, I was wondering if I can extend the 15-pin cable that attaches to
the DKC500RW on my MPX1Z.

I would ideally like to add about another 1 metre but was wondering if
it would be affected by noise causing the notes to be dropped etc.

Further, are these types are cable easy to purchase or are they made up.

thanks
Subhash

Mike,

I had a problem similar to yours and my problem turned out to be a pen that
had fallen down into the action. With the fall board up, objects can easily
roll onto the keys and cause rattling. I couldn't see the pen with a visual
inspection, but was pretty sure there was some foreign object on the keys.
I remedied this by removing the fallboard (which involved removing the two
blocks on both ends of the keys). The fall board lifted directly out and
there, laying right on top of the keys was a pen.

My symptoms were similar to yours. The rattling was most pronounced on one
key and diminished as I played the keys further away from the offending one.

Let us know what your rattle turns out to be.

Regards,

Ken Gorman

It almost sounds like a soundboard rattle. Look for a
foreign object lying under the strings. Sometimes kids
will put coins or marbles inside the round holes in the
plate. If you can't find anything on top of the
soundboard, check the underside while the piano is
playing, and by pushing upwards on various sections,
see if the rattle goes away. Could be a loose rib.
Another thing to try is put the lid down if it is
propped up. If the rattle goes away, probably the case
screws need tightened as well as the screws in the
hinge that holds the two pieces of the lid together.

Yes, you can easily insert a 9-conductor cable with Sub-D 9 pin
connectors between the control unit and the existing cable. Such
prefabricated cables are commonly found in computer stores. Mine is
about 2 meters long, but I'm sure it could be longer without any loss of
reliable performance of my Mark II DC3.

In my case, I was weary of banging my knees on the control unit and
craning my neck to read the display.

My friends,

This group is truly wonderful.

After I saw the messages from Ken and Carol, my thoughts immediately
flew to my 3-year old grandaughter, who loves to play with the piano.

Off came the fallboard, and there, right behind the G3 key, was a
diskette. Problem solved.

Your help, Carol and Ken, is much appreciated.

Regards,

Mike McGregor

To access the top of the keys, all one needs to do is
lift straight up on the fallboard. Put your thumbs on
the top (stretcher) and your fingers under the lip of
the fallboard. No need to remove the cheek blocks. To
replace the fallboard, rotate it forward to a 45 degree
angle, and put the notches on the side over the pins,
then push.

RE: [disklavier] Digest Number 1198

2006-02-10 by Adrian Thomas

The connecting cable for Disklavier to DKV carries come control signals (5Volt DC) and MIDI.
MIDI cables (according to the spec) can be up to 15metres long. The control signals should also work over that distance.

Personally, I would limit runs to about 10metres, so the lenghts suggested here should be fine.
