Downloading jpeg files to Mark IV

Downloading jpeg files to Mark IV

2006-09-06 by jheitzeb1

I have downloaded jpeg files from my Macintosh to the Mark IV to be used in the slideshow
feature of the tablet. I used a wireless connection to do so.

I am having a slight problem, however, for every jpeg file that I download the tablet thinks
that I have sent 2 jpeg files instead of one and puts blanks at the beginning of the slideshow.

Has anyone tried to download jpeg files to view in the slideshow option of the tablet?

Is there a difference in the file structure of a Macintosh jpeg file and a PC jpeg file that might
cause this?

Thanks,
Joan

You’re probably seeing two files, if coming from the Mac, which would be the resource fork and the data fork. The PC only uses one, the data fork portion. The resource fork file (a header) can be deleted.

Gene,

Only the .jpg files show up in the "My Picture" folder, but the disklavier tablet thinks there
is one extra blank picture for everyone that I added. I do not see these blank pictures in
the folder "My Picture" on the disklavier when using wifi.

How would I delete the resource fork file of the jpeg file? Is there something I need to do
or a special jpeg format that I should be using. I had been reducing the raw file (original
digital camera photos) using Photo Elements to 800 x 600 resolution and tried saving
using all three options in Photo Elements for jpeg. None seemed to work. Had better
luck exporting from iPhoto at 800 x 600 resolution and then resaving as jpeg in Preview
app. Got everything cleaned up and then I decided to test another method and now have
one phantom file that I can't seem to get rid of. Any suggestions?

I'm wondering if I dumped everything from that folder and then added the new files if that
would work to clean up the phantom file that now exists.

Thanks,
Joan

Yes, on the Mac you only see one file. In actuality, there are two, one is hidden ... Called the resource fork. PC users see both when a Mac file(s) is transferred, unless it is transferred by specifically stating it is for the PC. In the latter case, only one file is created ... The data fork. If you have access to a PC, then you can delete the unnecessary resource fork. Or, I think when you insert your diskette into the Disklavier, you can use the Song Delete command to delete it. My Mark III Disklavier doesn’t recognize .jpg which is why I refer to the “song” delete function.

If neither work for you, send me the files and I’ll delete the offenders on a PC diskette and mail to you. I have both a PC and Mac.

Re: Downloading jpeg files to Mark IV

Thanks for the information and offer for help. Unfortunately the hidden files are located
on the internal hard drive of my Mark IV disklavier piano. I have managed to get rid of all
but one hidden file and I can probably live with the one blank jpeg file that displays in the
slideshow on the tablet.

Thanks again for all your help.
