music stand...silly question

music stand...silly question

2007-03-28 by yadidisklavier

I recently moved from a worn down baby grand (bad shape) to a U1
Disklavier upright.

The upright has that ledge on two hinges secured to the underlide of
the keyboard lid. The ledge is to support the music. Unfortunately,
it cannot support heavier books....ie my favories "Fake
Books"....because of the weight. The ledge simply slips down.

Is this a common problem? A dumb design? Or is my question just
silly? I guess I just have to rip pages out of the Fake Book, or even
other song books, when this happens?

Hi there,

I have a U1 disklavier (with the soft close lid) and don't suffer from
this problem - although I have a problem with bigger books not staying
open because there are no clips to hold the book in place. The book
ledge has hinges as you describe, but it can only open so far before the
back of it butts up against the lid and stops opening further.

I've uploaded a photograph from the end showing how it butts up against
the lid. Please excuse the dust and harsh lighting that brings out all
the plastic working marks!

Maybe the older (or newer?) U1's had a different design? What model do
you have? Mine is a late MPX1Z MarkIIXG.

Regards,

James

Re: music stand...silly question

That picture was helpful. Thanks! My DK is from 1993 (or there
abouts). The ledge is definately different in that it doesn't butt
up against the lid. When I get home, I'll study the picture again
next to the piano. Maybe the hinges are just on it wrong (the hinges
appear to be the same as in your photo). Perhaps I could
strategically add something for it to butt against. At least I know
now that this isn't some ongoing design flaw.

Thanks again!

DC3 Pro Error Message question

2007-03-29 by Phil Becker

I turned on my DC3 Pro today, and got the error message:

PIANO POWER OFF
(KEY FET ERROR)

My question is: Is this something I can do some sort of reset and maybe
correct, or is it time to get a Disklavier Repairman in?

RE: [disklavier] DC3 Pro Error Message question

FYI, Since I couldn't get a Disklavier repairman here until Wednesday, I
kept fooling with things. I found that by turning on the control unit,
letting the error occur, then turning power switch off on the box that the
power cord goes into under the piano, waiting about 1 minute then turning it
back on that the error cleared.

I still have no idea what the actual problem was, and if this indicates I
will see more difficulty down the road, but for now my Disklavier is working
again and I'm a happy man!

Ha...if you see my earlier post, I had one expensive technician come
to my house and fix my DK. He was a good guy so I asked him about my
stand coming down on me....and he pointed out the obvious: the hinges
were bent. Maybe from someone leaning down on it too hard (previous
owner). Nonetheless, thats a repair I can handle.
