How much discount you can get?

How much discount you can get?

2007-09-01 by rondisklavier

Hi,

I wonder what is the typical discount that we usually can get from
Yamaha dealers in the USA. The first column is the official price from
Yamaha ad in the latest Piano Style Magazine. I converted the prices
using this rate US$ 1 = 120 YEN. The third column shows the price
that I could get (including sales tax + delivery). The MSRP YUS1 (new
U1) is $12K and C3 is 44.5K. Based on this, in general I can get about
40% discount of the US MSRP. We can get better price in California,
the market is much more competitive there. Please note that the
Japanese price shown below is just MSRP, therefore, expect additional
discount.

MSRP in Japan Dollar Price I could get
YUS1 675,700 5,631 7,600
C1 1,365,000 11,375
C2 1,575,000 13,125
C3 1,890,000 15,750 24,000
C5 2,100,000 17,500
C6 2,520,000 21,000
C7 2,940,000 24,500

What model is 5'6"? C3? What you need to do is to go to my list
below, find the C3 price without disklavier and add about 4K to that
price for the C3 disklavier version. In this case, you should pay
around 30K. If possible use the Japanese price and add 4K as your
referance price, but getting that price is kind of difficult. But
you need to try. Since you live in CA, you have better bargaining
power. John Waltrip in Arcadia is pretty competitive. Don't just go
there and buy, you have to really play game with most piano stores.
If you do not know the prices, you will pay way too much, because
the MSRP is way too high.

Re: [disklavier] Re: How much discount you can get?

2007-09-04 by Carol Beigel

I think there may some misunderstanding about how much "discount" is
available on a Mark IV Disklavieror any other new Yamaha piano today. I
know that previous DKVs added about $7,000 to the price of the piano, and I
am certain the Mark IV costs much more. In order to be a an official Yamaha
dealer, you agree to sell pianos within corporate guidelines. Also, dealer
overhead varies from place to place. I think rent on a store would be much
cheaper in Oklahoma than in New York. Besides, if you think you are saving
money buying a piano over the internet from someplace afar, remember my
forklift example. Pianos are tranferred from the trucks into the warehouse
by forklift. Should one fall off, still in a factory crate, that is the
first unit I would advertise on ebay! Sell it far, far away and never have
to deal with it!

Price is only part of the equation. Value is another. The availability of
service can make a huge difference. You need for someone else to care about
your satisfaction that is close enough to you to provide service, advice and
support. The cheapest price is not always the best value.

I agree 100%, I'd rather pay more and have good support. But, of
course, not like $10,000 more than the market price.
