Several Mark IV Questions

Several Mark IV Questions

2009-02-08 by Brian

Hi Everyone,

I have a Mark IV and have a few questions that I can't seem to figure out.

1. Does anyone know where to purchase a new battery for the pda remote and any idea how
much it costs?

2. I've been hearing you can connect the Mark IV to your computer and control it from your
computer? Is this true and can anyone help me to figure out how to do this?

3. I also can't find the information/instructions on connecting to live players. I get emails
periodically from Yamaha with news flashes of events I may want to listen to.

I have the Ver 3.0 software, wi fi connection.

Thank you!
  Brian

Brian,

1) The PRC-100 is strikingly similar (identical?) to a sharp zaurus PDA, see here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharp_Zaurus

So, I'm inclined to believe that the replacement batteries for the Zaurus are what you need...A google search should be able to turn them up. Be aware that there are multiple versions of the Zaurus, so you should start by finding out which one most resembles the PRC-100 (Maybe all of the Zaurus models use the same battery and this doesn't matter so much...) You can probably also source the replacement battery from Yamaha, but I would imagine it would cost more that way...

2) You can control your Mark IV version 3.0 from your computer 2 ways. The first should have been described in your 3.0 upgrade documentation and is refered to as the "virtual" PRC-100. If you can see your piano's shared folders from your computer, you should locate the "dna" share. In there should be a VirtualPRC.html that you can launch. I'll defer to the actual documentation for anything further than that. :-) You can also download and install my DKVBrowser software which allows you to control your piano from the computer as well.

3) I don't know of any "live" players that you can connect to (but I love the idea!). Are you refering to Disklavier Radio?

-Kevin

Brian,
If you have trouble finding the Virtual PRC users guide, I have a copy
in pdf file format that I can send you via email if you like.

Re: [disklavier] Several Mark IV Questions

2009-02-08 by Brian Bonewitz

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for the information!! I'm completely lost on this piano,
it's too high tech for me! LOL

I read somewhere that Yamaha was charging an arm and a leg for the
replacement battery. So I thought I would see if anyone had
alternatives to it. I just got off the phone with Batteries Plus and
they have the exact battery but will have to order it and it's only
$21. So I'm anxious to get it.

I can see the shared folders on the Yamaha from my computer, but I
don't see a DNA share. I went to the folder PRC-100 and didn't find
the VirtualPRC.html that you referenced. I did a search and it didn't
come up either. I also searched the upgrade CD and didn't find it on
there either. The upgrade said it installed successful. Any ideas on
that?

Thank you again for your help!!

-Brian

Hi Joan,

I must be missing both the Virtual PRC and the VirtualPRC.html file
that Kevin was talking about. I have my V 3.0 upgrade manual here
with the floppy disk and the CD but that's all I have. I wish Yamaha
had more information on their website, my dealer here in Kansas city
really isn't very helpful.

Thank you!

Brian,

If you see the shares from the Piano (Document, FromToPC, MyPicture, Update) but not "dna", I'm not sure what to suggest. It should be there if you are running 3.0 on the Disklavier (unless someone can think of a reason why it isn't there). I'm surprised your dealer isn't willing to help!

If controlling the piano from the PC is important, you can try DKVBrowser in the meantime (until you figure this virtual PRC thing out).

Join the group over at:

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/dkvbrowser/

and I can talk you through downloading and installing it. What operating system are you running?

-Kevin

You need the manual of Mark IV which is normally delivered with the
piano. All info you are looking for is inside. If you give me an
email address I can sent it to you

Hi,

1. google for batteries for the Sharp Zaurus-5500 (this is basically what the Mark IV remote control is) In the UK, they cost about £12.00. You can also check the google results for slightly higher capacity batteries. The one supplied is 1700mAH, I have found some which are at least 2000mAH.

2. you need the latest version of the software (Version 3.0). You can ask Yamaha for details. You can also get it from ftp://216.154.248.26/ , username 'disklavier', password 'disklavier'.

3. Version 3.0 will allow you to connect directly to the internet. Details are in the Version 3.0 owner's manuals.

Maybe you don't need new batteries. Try charging the PDA directly from the
line-in instead of the cradle. Sometimes you just need to remove the
battery and reseat it in either the PDA or the Tablet controller if you have
one.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
