How to Reinstall Disklavier IV 3.0 Upgrade

How to Reinstall Disklavier IV 3.0 Upgrade

2009-02-22 by Brian

Hey folks,

I have a Mark IV and installed the 3.0 upgrade last summer when I
received it and am now wanting to play with controlling the piano via
my PC. I am missing the DNA folder when I look at the folder list
from my computer.

Is there a way to force a re-install of the upgrade? I tried putting
the CD and floppy in and following the instructions just like it was a
new upgrade. It quickly went through the process in just a few
minutes but I still don't have the DNA folder.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
   Brian

Hey Brian,

Perhaps it's something silly for why the DNA folder is not appearing.. but I have asked a few times about a 'fresh install' and it seems that you have no choice but to send the HD back all the way to Japan for them to 're-install'.

It's all a bit bodgy/clumsy for such a simple thing... Hopfully a tech will tell us how to do it, I tried another HD and pressed the 'install' button (on the computer box next to the dip switches) this is what the actual service manual said...but no matter how many times and different variations it just refused to do a fresh install.

So anyway, from other discussions apparantly we need another version that will install from scratch.... it might not be too long as I don't know how long these old 80gig drives will last hehe :p

Perhaps our good pal Bill will upload a new .iso :-)

Cheers,
Philip

Hi,

you will need to get in touch with Yamaha. They should have rescue disks to re-install the operating system. Unfortunately, these are not available for distribution to the general public. The update CD (or the update download) only contains changes to the operating system, not the complete package, so you can't use it to re-install the operating system if your hard drive has crashed. This also shows why it is a good idea to regularly back up your hard drive, esp. if you do a lot of recording.

I love how people re badge what people have already said thinking they are the big experts :p

Does anyone have these 'rescue disks?' (sounds like a stupid mac lingo to me!)

Yamaha in Australia are hopeless, there is a guy who 'specilises' in disklaviers but is nothing more than a fat dump powertripping wanker.

I just spoke to Yamaha Support in CA, they are having me do a reset
which will restore it back to factory defaults. We'll see if that
works when I get home tonight. I'll let you know.
