RootAripper only works on some Smart piano Soft disks not others

RootAripper only works on some Smart piano Soft disks not others

2010-09-05 by dsmith941

Hello, have sucessfully moved all of my regular fd collection to a usb drive for my DKC-850. However, only some of the SmartPianoSoft disks open with RootAripper. EG, Sinatra and Romanza (Bocelli ) do, but Eagles greatest hits, Ropin the wind Garth brooks dont. I get a can't read disk message. Is there some reason rootaripper wont open these although it does open the regular Yamaha Piano soft disks? I dont have access to an old DOS machine to run the other programs anymore , like DKVutils.

thanks for any help. Dave

I believe those disks which have an audio (or XG component to them) will not transfer via Rootripper. I had a Lacie USB floppy A drive

and it connected to 850 USB port and then I could get the files into the 850.

Also if you have a problem with no direct connect to INTERNET, I used the APPLE device: Airport Express.
Connected Ethernet line into Apple Airport Express. Hid the Airport Express under piano. Then it receives info from home WIFI (Wireless) on second floor.

NO unsightly yellow ethernet cables under piano to Modem / router. Worked great. Product = $99
Download Instructions from Apple about the Airport Express to get an idea. While I do have MAC (Apple) equipment, I do believe it will also work with Windows equipment.

Added bonus.... The Airport express also has a miniplug receptacle which you can plug into the red/white IN ports of the 850. Then you can play any of your ITUNES songs through the Piano's "Monitor" speakers.

Speakers under the Grand.

Just some ideas.

Good afternoon, everyone.

Stephen, is your router on the second floor an Apple Airport router? I have read that the Airport Express will work as a wi-fi bridge to an Apple Airport router but not to most non-Apple routers.

Regards,
PianoBench

I use AT & T DSL to connect to internet. AT& T provides a "2WIRE" wireless dsl modem/ router in one piece of equipment.
A standard telephone line goes into the modem/router and that is the only line (besides electric) that goes in. This then sets up the home wireless (wifi)
My problem (as I think many may have) is that the Yamaha Grand piano with the newly installed 850 is located in a LIVING Room with no telephone line in the vicinity.
Thus I was really unable to connect the 850 physically to anything without getting a telephone line put in. (Not to mention yellow ethernet cables all over the Living room).

So my goal then became to run the Ethernet cable from the 850 into some device which would wirelessly connect into the home WiFi and thus internet.

I had used the Airport Express before for a different purpose but I thought it might work. So here is what the physical connections looked like:

2nd Floor
-------tel line-->At&t 2Wire Modem/ Router MAC computer* in different room from modem connected wirelessly

1st Floor

850 -----------Ethernet Cable ----> AIRPORT Express connected wirelessly At&t Modem/router

*Computer comes with AIRPORT software and is used to set up Airport Express. Thus LONG WINDED way to say no ROUTER on second floor is NOT an Apple Airport router. It is the standard "@WIRE ATT modem /router"

So actually the router modem is in one room "broadcasting" out to the MAC Computer wirelessly and broadcasting wirelessly downstairs to Piano 850.

Couple of final points. The Airport Express has in addition to the Ethernet connection, a micro plug which can be connected to the Inputs of the 850. In the MAC world this is called "Airtunes" and works through Itunes to play any Itunes songs through the Piano's speakers.
So you can play along to any of your Itunes as they play in the speakers under the piano.
In addition there is a free APP called remote. Incredibly this APP lets you control and select your Itunes Playing upstairs on your computer through the piano speakers WITH YOUR IPHONE. So you can be downstairs at the piano with you Iphone and select the next song you want to play through your piano's speakers and adjust the volume on the iphone so balances with you as you play. Probably could record the whole mess too if you want. I am talking very fun!! See: http://www.apple.com/itunes/remote/

My advice is:

1: Download the pdf instructions: SEE: http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/
2: Read all you can on Apple web about Airtunes and Airport. It is a very versatile item.
3: If you buy Airport Express. Save yourself some frustration: Call Apple to set up a call back time get the thing running (also have a paperclip ready incase you have to reset)
4: Don't be put off if you are a Widows guy. If you talk to Apple I am sure they will tell you it can be set up if you have a Widows computer (You will have to download software).

Hope this helps. I am a sort of novice in this stuff. I don't want to frustrate anyone. But all these device working together are really fun for an outlay of $99. Make some music....

Best Regards to all...

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
