By using the Giebler Utility, you can convert a MIDI file to E-SEQ and specify a
title that will appear in your DKV's LCD. The LCD, of course, displays two
lines of 16 characters, so you will want to coordinate the line break after the
16th character with your representation of the title.

No, the Giebler Utility has to be purchased and is available at www.giebler.com

You might try the free Disklavier group file utility first. I believe that also
allows you to title your files. It may even be easier to use.

The big computer stores and office suppliers don't carry DS,DD diskettes but if
you're near a Wal-Mart, K-Mart, or Fred Meyers, check them. Some have reported
that they get away with taping or filling the extra hole on DS,HD diskettes, so
you might try that. (Others say that there additional differences between them
beyond the extra hole.)

Taping over the extra hole and reformatting as a 720K does work. Unless you have an older disklavier that doesn't read 1.44 diskettes, you only need a single disk for a very short period of time. After completing the dkvcopy, you are then able to archive the files on the copy to the hard drive and copy them to a 1.44MB for playback. ; I have one disk I just reuse over and over. Since it is only temporary storage, you needn't worry about stability issues.

hi todd,

you're right..... taping the extra hole works!

my objective: to title midi songs.
what i have: a blank formatted 720k disk, a disk (1.44mb)full of midi songs
to be titled, and dkvutils in my hard drive

i read the instruction but i have difficulty comprehending it. i would
greatly appreciate it if, when you have the time, to "show" me step by step
on how to reach my objective. again thanks in advance.

Re: [disklavier] midi's title

2001-06-25 by Todd Muncy

Easiest thing to do is convert to e-seq format. Then use e-explorer to edit the files. By right clicking and editing the properties of the files you can edit the disk title and the song titles. Best of all, you can make up long-playing disks, by combining two or more disks, or make up a composite disk of all your favorites. A 1.44 will hold almost 2.5 hours of music. The documentation that comes with dkv utils, plus the tips above should be enough to get you where you want to go.
Anyone care to critique the very recently upgraded http://MuncyFamily.com web site? My daughter's recent recital (rehearsal) performance (10 years old, less than 2 years of lessons) is there along with a lot of great quality stuff from Gary Lloyd, Doug McKenzie and of course, the Bumble Boogie. Enjoy!

my objective: to title midi songs.
what i have: a blank formatted 720k disk, a disk (1.44mb)full of midi songs
to be titled, and dkvutils in my hard drive

Hi Bob

I have been playing with GNMIDI, I think this will do all you want it
do. You will find it in the Files Software section of the group.

Re: [disklavier] midi's title

" i have a hard time buying the required disk (720k)."
Try:
A mail order source that you can get 10 DSDD disks for around $4.00 is:

World Wise Computer Supplies
800-994-7344
or in Columbus OH 614-279-6886

Try Quill for DD floppies: 50 bulk pack floppies for about $20:
Order #7-10315FB 1-800-789-1331.

" is there a way to convert my 1.44 mb disk ( i have plenty) to 720k."

If disk reliability is important, "fooling" a FDD by taping over the hole of a HDD and reformatting to 720K (DDD) is not advisable.

2001-06-28 by bvaldez98@hotmail.com

hi todd,

i'm sorry but i'm still confused! ! ! my knowledge in computer is
somewhat limited. having admitted to that, "convert to e-seq format.
then use eexplorer to edit the files", i honestly don't know how to
do it or where to start. again, i have a 720k disk; a 1.44mb disk
full of midi files that need titleing; and a blank 1.44mb disk that's
all i know so far. please help again. thanks in advance
