Ordering the DKC-850 Upgrade

Ordering the DKC-850 Upgrade

2011-03-10 by mh180005

I'm looking for a Yamaha dealer where others have successfully ordered the DKC-850 upgrade. A Yamaha dealer is not located close to where I live and I don't want to purchase the DKC-850 upgrade from a dealer that others have not been successful with.

Thank You.

If you are in the UK, I fear you might struggle - I apologise for my
rant in advance!

Yamaha UK were unhelpful.
Chappell of Bond Street (but now on Wardour Street) are only
interested in selling you the instrument - in their own words 'it is
not worth our while dealing with accessories or upgrades'
Mickleburgh quoted prices above the UK SRP.
Cheltenham Piano Center had nobody to hand that knew (and then
recently their sales 'expert' told a friend that current disklavier
pianos do not have silent operation)

Has anyone in the UK purchased this device successfully? If so, where from?

I purchased my DKC-850 and bracket from Classic Pianos in Bellevue, WA. Their headquarters are in Portland, OR and I believe they have a web store as well. I've been happy with their support and product availability.

I also learned a few cool tricks on how to install the unit on the left side of the piano instead of the right allowing easier access when sitting at the keyboard. I'll be happy to share some tips.

Hi Kassey22000,

I'm also thinking of mounting the DKC-850 on the left side for easier access for me. Would love to hear your tips. Thanks.
Joe

Hi Joe, Very cool... check out my tips for this on message #8919
(you can also search by kassey22000 and it's toward the oldest of my postings).

I can also provide some pics if you like.

Do you have a Pro and/or a silent control box (small box on left of the keyboard with headphone and volume control)?

Also, per your other question. I downloaded the E-3 update and installed it on my DKC-850 per the instructions on the Yamaha Disklavier site for the E3 support. It works fine with the iTunes Store iPhone 4 Disklavier Controller app. However, I've been told that Yamaha is going to release a firmware update for the 850 this spring/summer and there are apparently a few differences in the software/firmware of the two units so proceed at your own technical comfort level as we can't know for sure if the update might cause glitches in the 850 controller. The free iPhone app is a very cool way to interface with the piano; I strongly suggest you check it out.

You can also email me directly if you would like some more detail on the bracket and box installation.

Have fun with these amazing instruments!
