Mark IV question

Mark IV question

2011-06-07 by Rob Alexander

Hi group, a newbie here. We bought a MArk IV about 2 years ago and love it, but lately it sounds as if the sync of the music is off. When a song is being played, the tempo seems odd and seems to jump around. Or what I mean is it doesnt really sound like someone is playing the piano- sounds disjointed. I am unsure of how often these things need servicing etc. IS this a normal adjustment thing or am I hearing things?-lol

Bruce,

I would suggest that you completely shut down your Mark IV. Wait 30 seconds and then restart your Mark IV and wait until it is fully booted up. I find that periodically my Mark IV will simply stop playing back completely (although the cursor moves on The PRC-100 wireless remote) and that when songs are recorded they are recorded with bad tempo, etc. A re-boot as described above has always solved the problem. If a re-boot does not solve your Mark IV problem, then I would suggest a call to Yamaha Service is in order. And no this is not a normal adjustment thing.

Also, I would suggest keeping in mind that rebooting the Mark IV is not the
same as rebooting the Linux PC on which the Mark IV software runs. So in
addition to Tom's suggestion of shutting down the Mark IV, I would wait
until it's completely shut down and then I would pull the plug on the PC,
wait 15 seconds, plug the PC back in, wait about 5 minutes to make sure the
PC is completely rebooted, and then restart the Mark IV.

You may even go so far as to completely unplug the power cord from the duplex for 30 seconds or so. On occasion, (twice in 6 ½ years) rebooting didn\u2019t do if for me. But I do leave mine on 24/7. About every three or four weeks it does need to be rebooted as the pedals stop working. A reboot has always solved that issue. If you are new, be sure to get the disklavier app for your phone or ipad. It works the way I think the PRC should have worked from the get go but never did. Id even go so far as saying that it is worth buying an ipod touch so you never have to touch the PRC again.

Best wishes! .

G.

Hey Guys,

I run my Mark4 every day for 3 - 5 hours in my restaurant. Overall it's a pretty buggy piano. I have to completly shut it down every few days (or less!) as the stupid pedals just stay on at random, even when a song is completly stopped. It also tends once a month to just randomally jump to the synth instead of the real piano (like quiet mode) if while the song is playing I just toggle the channel number from # to 1 and back it then plays the piano for 30 seconds or a minute or even till the song ends then the next song the synth is jammed on again.

All problems are solved with a shut down.

Yamaha are pretty precious and arrogant in Australia and just assume the customer is crazy so it's no use trying to report anything.

All they need to do is intergrate a way of stopping and starting the services when you go to standby as I put it on standby every day. Also as part of good form, have a way of clearing/flushing the memory when a song starts (like the panic button in cakwalk) it would take 1 second and be worth it. (perhaps have this an optional toggle in the setup).

Cheers,
Philip

What Phil has suggested would be the answer to most DKV owner's prayers. This is likely to be one of the topmost frustrations that we experience.

It's also worth making sure that you have the latest version of software installed (V4.0)

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
