DKC-850 Version 3.10 Update is now available

DKC-850 Version 3.10 Update is now available

2011-07-26 by bill.brandom03

We're pleased to announce the release of the long-awaited operating system upgrade for the DKC850 (Version 3.10) that enables, among other things, wireless remote control of a connected Disklavier using an iPod/iPhone/iPad!*

There are two places you can download this DKC850 OS Upgrade via the Internet … from either the Yamaha Support Page or from the DKC850 Product Page. This process requires a computer and USB Flash Memory (with at least 20MB available space).

This flyer explains how to download the upgrade data & related manuals.

IMPORTANT: Apparently some people have installed the previously available upgrade for E3 Disklavier systems into their DKC850. If you have done this, please MAKE SURE to download and install this (the proper) one.

*Click here for a PDF that describes the Disklavier Controller Application, that is free from the iTunes Store. Feel free to download and print this flyer. Please note that your iPod/iPhone/iPad must be connected to a WiFi access point that is on the same network as your Disklavier for this application to function.

It works great Bill. The ipad interface is great Do you know if they fixed the calibration routines. Had problems with my DC3A and had to rerun with the original controller. Thanks

My understanding is that a bug was corrected in the calibration routine. Can you let me know if you find that it has been corrected?

Looks like they fixed it! Seems to work fine, but I'll do some more testing. Not sure this is related to the firmware update, but twice since upgrading the firmware, the system has lost my email and password for disklavier radio. Thanks.

One thing I didn't mention is that piano can play quieter than before for some strange reason. I can barely hear the piano at -10. I also noticed than when running the keyboard measurement it started much quieter than the routine on the old controller. Interesting.

One huge improvement that I have noticed is that my own recordings that I've made of my own performances now sound correct. When I calibrated with the old controller, they were just a bit off. Only I really noticed because they were my own recordings. They are now spot on with running the calibration from the DKC-850. :)

Re: [disklavier] Re: DKC-850 Version 3.10 Update is now available

2011-07-30 by WILLIAM S BRANDOM

I am really glad to hear that you have experienced several of the product improvements with the DKC-850 update.

You mentioned that your Disklavier now plays softer. My guess is that you have either a DGC1B or a DC2B. There was a small bug in the original program that caused these two models to play louder than they needed to.

Thanks for your comments to the group.

I have a DC3A.

The simplest way to connect the iPad is to use the $29 iPad camera connector kit with a class-compliant USB interface. This is available from Apple at: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC531ZM/A. This should suffice for most usage situations where the iPad app is used in learn, jam or perform modes for practicing, playing along to accompaniments etc.

Depending on your usage needs, there are a few pricier options like the iConnectMIDI box and Line 6's MIDI Mobilizer II. These are low-latency devices and best suited to a professional or recording/editing studio environment. The iConnectMIDI box is perfectly suited to a situation where multiple devices need to be connected together.

Websites:
iConnectMIDI: www.iconnectivity.com price: $179-$199
Line 6: www.line6.com price: $70

Thanks. Got the adapter and it seems to work, but the piano is playing the internal piano sound. Need to look at a few more settings.

Re: [disklavier] Home Concert Xtreme for iPad - Email found in subject

2011-08-15 by George Frederick Litterst

Good evening, everyone.

The Disklavier has a setting called Piano Receive Channel. This setting determines which data is played by the piano. All other data is played by the tone generator.

When using Home Concert Xtreme, it is normally a good idea to set the Piano Receive Channel to ## because you are going to play the piano yourself and you want the accompaniment tracks to be played without delay.

Regards,
PianoBench
