ARP specified the 2N5249 as an alternate for the TZ81. They likewise 
specified 2N5367 as an alternate for the TZ581

2N3904 would be a modern sub for the TZ81, and 2N3906  for the TZ581.

I have some ARP stuff on my website 
(http://www.guitarfool.com/ARP2500.html), including the original 1006 which 
was slightly diferent from the 4012 & 4035.

ARP had other filters, like the 4023 and the 4072 & 4075, which sound a bit 
diferent from the ladder.
