Hi Erik,
Where are you? In the US, I think DotCom is not making much money off blanks. I hardly make anything off my MOTM blanks, and they are simpler as far as mechanics (no bends or cuts) and paint (no taping off). Even then, you probably won't get them for cheaper unless you order 20 or more of a certain size. And if you do find a metal/ paint place that does it for real cheap... let me know! : )
Amazingly, I bought a panel bin from Ikea for $40, and whilst assembling it, realized it would cost over $400 from a local assembly shop. But made in China, at a quantity of a kajillion... somehow they pull it off.
It's funny, since I've been making stuff, I no longer think MOTM is expensive, and I think DotCom is a steal (though those cheap jacks throw me off)!
Cheers,
Scott

This is nuts! At $12-20 each I think I'm going to look into getting
some made up here locally. Maybe some nice 3/32" aluminum with holes
to fit dotcom and/or motm. With just plain old satin FLAT BLACK finish.

Shouldn't cost more than $5 apiece - maybe I'll offer them for $7

grumble..grumble..;)
