Cynthia In some cases, it's ALL about the money. I've wanted to have a modular synthesizer since the mid '70s. Over the years, I've bought a kit her or there (I actually have one or two PAIA 2700 modules somewhere, still waiting to be assembled). Some MOTM, CGS, EFM, Blacet, and miscellaneous others. But I never got started as I did not have enough to make anything functional. Then I got a few extra $ and discovered the DotCom systems. I actually had enough to buy something that I could make music (noise?) with! I bought a slightly modified version of the Rack-24 system and was on my way. I have since completed several of the MOTM and Blacet kits I have, I've ordered more, and I'm still building. But the single biggest issue is still $ (hence so many kits I have to build). Would I like a ZO, HECK YES! Can I afford a ZO, nope :( Am I a DotCom 'snob', no! I am definitely building a Frankensynth! But most of what I have that is not DotCom is bare PCBs or kits. I do prefer the 1/4" format as I'm 6'3" and have big, clumsy hands. I've broken a couple of 1/8" jack over the years, so my Blacet panels are mounted in adapters and have 1/4" jacks to access the patch points. I've 'shopped' just about every format there is, and DotCom provides all the basics at the best prices I've been able to find. Maybe one of these days a rich relative will pass on and leave me a bundle in their will, in which case Cyndustries and Modcan will both be getting a couple of decently sized orders. In the mean time, keep on making neat modules I can't afford (yet) and please, do take some time to smell the roses, before the solder fumes wreck your nose and you can't :-) Larry T.
