I can't believe you're going to destroy a collectible VL-Tone! ;-P

For power, use a 9V voltage regulator that's powered by the dotcom's +15V power rail.

For amplification, make a simple op amp-based preamp. Check out Ken Stone's Stomp Box adapter:
