Hi any interest in dotcom Oakley

Hi any interest in dotcom Oakley

2009-05-25 by krisp14u2

Hi to all on this group
My name is Paul Darlow AKA Krisp1 Some of you may know me but if not I run krisp1.com and build and sell Oakley Modules In mostly MOTM format
A few of my customers are Dotcom users and when I have talked to a few of you I get the feeling you guys are sick of being told that the MOTM format modules can just fit in with your Dotcom
So I am proposing to make some Oakley Modules in the Dotcom format with ether power adapters or on the newer PCB's a Dotcom Type power connector as standard (this should be good news for Dotcom DIYers)
So the big question, is this worth my while to invest in panels and adapters
Is there a market for this or should I just keep on telling you guys who want Oakley that the MOTM format fits anyway so why worry

Cheers

Paul Darlow

I too am gearing up to release modules in DotCom/MU format. I say go for it! You already have a great line of modules to work with so that is an even bigger plus for you. The MU format is also conducive to more interesting and intuitive layouts.

Good luck,

Hello Paul ,

I like DIY so... will you sell PCBs with dotcom type power connector? The panels will be Dotcom type or will be only with dotcom size and dotcom type mounting holes?
I would be interested in some Oakley modules ( Equinoxe, Triple VCA...)

Pablo

I have been asked about the panel layouts in private mails as well as hear
Most of the panel layouts are quite fixed due to the PCB mounting to the panel by the pots and pot brackets
I would not want to change the PCB mounting arrangements as it works so well and the pots Im using are fantastic
Other things I have no intension of changing if I do go for the Dotcom run is the jack's (switchcraft 112A's)
1 they are fantastic quality
2 I have boxes of them :)
cheers

I'd be interested too. Especially in the Triple Little LFO and Equinoxe.

There are definitely some Oakley modules I've had my eyes on that I would order if they were in dotcom format (both panels and connectors; just doing power connectors wouldn't be enough of a benefit over the MOTM version, IMO). Specifically, I'd be interested in the following:

LFO Triple
VCA Triple
Equinoxe

I purchased an Oakley Overdrive (MOTM format) for my dotcom from Krisp and was very satisfied with build quality and customer service. I use this module all the time!

I know Bride Chamber has done a few, but I keep thinking that if someone was
to make DotCom style panels for ALL Synth Tech MOTM modules, it would be a
simple matter in most cases (some of the modules with digital displays etc
might be more involved) to just buy the desired MOTM module, switch the guts
over to the DotCom Esq. panel and then sell the MOTM panel. For people not
wanting to do the transfer themselves a service could do it for a small fee
and even give the owner up to 40% or so to keep the MOTM panel (to resell or
using in new MOTM builds etc)

Also, seems like a tiny MTA 156 header to MTA 100 header "power chiclet" PCB
could be designed that would solder to the top of the MOTM power header and
have a DotCom header on it. One would be included in the conversion package.
Knob replacement set optional.

The controls arrangements would still be MOTM and the switches would still
be MOTM style, but the panels would be DotCom width and have DotCom coloring
and graphics.

Nice idea.
Seems like you could sell a few of the equinoxe phaser.

I bought the phaser from Krisp1, and I think the Oakley modules are great. I was however annoyed with the different looking panel, so I recently made a dotcom panel myself. This is how it looks now:
