The program change behaviour was changed to make the Machinedrum work
seamlessly together with the Monomachine. Both sends and accepts
program change to change pattern. If you sync up A01 on the MD to A01
on the Mono you can have them syncronised by just changing on one unit.
Program change changing kit I can understand is quite handy in many
cases, but we don't like it as it is "destructive", in a way program
change normally is not. Changing the kit of a pattern makes the
pattern sound totally different, and changes to a pattern is stored
immediately.
So we will not change back to how it was before because of the reasons
above. Hopefully we can find a way to allow people to do the easy kit
change in another way though. We like to stay out of global switches
as well we can because we want all MD's to have a general MIDI interface.
We have thought of several different methods of getting the job done:
1) Program change in a specific bank changes the kit. (using the "bank
select" MIDI command)
2) A SYSEX or CTRL-change change the kit.
3) A quick method of changing kit on the Machinedrum which doesnot
involve going to the Kit>Load menu.
Could you who feel limited by the current implementation let me know
if one or several of these proposed implementations would be usable
for you?
Thanks,
