I have heard plenty of complaints about MIDI being too slow, related to it being a serial interface, therefore multiple MIDI events that occur at the same time are played back one after the other, not all at once. So the notes in a chord and drum beats that happen at exactly the same time in your sequencer do not get played back at exactly the same time from the MIDI device.
 
Maybe not an issue if just using MIDI for sync, and not actually playing notes through it.

Well, we use midi since more than ten years and i never heard someone complain
about slow midi specification... Think about Jarre, Tangerine Dreams and
Vangelis, how many synth they use with "simple" midi ?
