I have heard plenty of complaints about MIDI being too slow, related to it being a serial interface, therefore multiple MIDI events that occur at the same time are played back one after the other, not all at once. So the notes in a chord and drum beats that happen at exactly the same time in your sequencer do not get played back at exactly the same time from the MIDI device.
