I would try MIDI Out of the MPC to MIDI In of the MD.  Set the MD to receive
external clock.  Then MIDI Out of the MD to MIDI In of the Virus with the
Virus also set to receive external clock.

As you noted, give the MD and the Virus their own designated MIDI channels.
I think, with the MIDIMachines, you can sequence up to 16 external channels.
Depending on how many channels you want to use on the Virus, you might want
to say 1-8 are for Virus only and channels 9-16 are for the MD only.

Now...if only I HAD a Machinedrum!
