Re: [elektron] i want a new SidStation OS too...

2002-03-01 by NiftyTrick

I have a newer version of the os than what is on the site. I wonder if they do have a newer version, just havn't updated the site with it.

As for the stripped down version of the md... I don't think I would like that. I'm sure they would sell more, but I'm always for quality, not quantity. The machinedrum is what it is because Elektron is a good company. If they were to strip it down to sell more, they would be like microsoft... trying to get everyone to buy a stripped down version of something so they could profit from it. I would much rather see them work on a keyboard, or on a sequencing groove box :)

Well, I wouldn't say they've dropped support. They just released a new
bank of patches for the Sid. And even if I were claiming they'd dropped
support, I wouldn't blame the MD for it. I bought my sidstation over 1
year before the MD was released, and they haven't released an OS update
for it yet. They worked out all the bugs, which is all I can ask for.
Adding extra features isn't really a requirement for me, since I bought
it with the feature set it has.

Not to mention the MD is a more versatile piece, and most likely appeals
to a wider market. It makes sense for them to concentrate on that for
now, and deal with the niche market the sidstation aims for later. The
MD has the potential to be huge (especially for a company as small as
elektron.) I'd like to see Elektron come out with a stripped down
version of the MD at a cheaper price (maybe fewer effects, less knobs,
only 2 outs, 1 in, and maybe fewer tracks) to get people introduced to
their gear. Imagine if in 2 years we'll all be listening to Kid SPS-1's
  latest album :)

Now having said that, I would like to see midi triggering of the
individual oscillators added. I have no idea if that's feasible tho.
