Sorry, Dr W., but I have to disagree a little. You can start a Protools package with an M-box. You get Protools LE, a nice in/out portable rig and it will cost you less than $500 (And I'm not contesting your opinion of protools's MIDI capabilities). Of course, later on, protools plug in are crazy expensive. In terms of learning Sonar because it's "easier", I'd say it's easier learning ONE program ever, and not learning one now, one next year, and so on. If you work in PC I'd say Cubase. If you work Mac, think about it a little bit.
